This Newport 28 is a truly beautiful pocket yacht. Designed by C&C, she has similar lines as her Canadian sisters, while the many improvements to her interior set her apart. C&C designed boats are notorious for sailing well to their rating, while the Newport offers more room and comfort than expected in a 28 foot boat.
On deck, she is simply laid out for short-handed sailing with a cabin mounted traveler (forward of the companionway), Lewmar 30 self tailing winches, and an Edson steering pedestal. Cockpit cushions make for added comfort.
What strikes one most upon going below is the beautifully finished woodwork that gives the boat a very rich feel. Light from ample hatches and port lights make her feel spacious, and airy. There are many spots where custom woodwork blends beautifully with the original layout, while creating many new storage options. Recent Green, plush cushions finish off the look and feel of a much more expensive yacht.
The v berth is very comfortable for two people over six feet. An overhead hatch provides light and air. Just aft of the berth on the starboard side is a large hanging locker.
Her very comfortable head includes a marine toilet (plumbed to a holding tank), vanity & sink with hot shower.
Her main salon includes a large dropdown table that provides seating for five. The table also acts as a storage compartment, perfect for hiding away plates, cups, etc. There is a comfortable seat to starboard that could be used by a youth for a bunk. On the port side you will find two very comfortable berths end to end. Custom woodwork and glasswork abounds making for beautiful storage spaces. A stow- away navigation table folds up on the port side as well.
The simple L shaped galley has a two burner alcohol stove, a stainless steel sink with hot and cold running water, a large cooler, and plenty of storage.
Engine Room
Access to the Universal M 18 diesel engine is made easy by a pull away ladder/cover, as well as top down access from the cockpit. Removable side panels on the port side quarter berth, and the starboard side Lazarette provide more access.
The engine is clean, and well maintained. It is winterized.

Projects/ Issues
The custom canvas cover has two small holes on it which could be fixed easily with patches.
The Isenglass windows on the custom canvas cockpit dodger are not perfect.
The clock next to the barometer has been removed(assumed stolen).
The glass for the oil lamp is missing.
If you take a close look at the photos of the main cabin bulkhead where it meets the teak and holy sole, you will note some discoloration in the varnish. You will find the same in several spots along the bottom of that bulkhead. Usually that suggests water intrusion/ delamination. However, on this boat the wood seems solid, and there are no other signs of water getting in- see the photos of the bulkhead/chainplate areas- they are fine. We do think it is worth keeping an eye on.
The main hatch is reported to have a very minor leak. We were on board on a rainy day, and no water was getting in.
