1930 ELCO


This Classic 1930 ELCO is without exception, the finest of it’s kind in the United States. Owned and operated by an experienced wooden boat enthusiast, she combines modern livability while retaining the classic feel of a bygone era. This yacht is in nearly new condition and requiring no systems, structural or internal upgrading. Her joinery and domestic system installations appear as new. She was completely rebuilt in 2013 by Moores Boat Yard in Beaufort, NC. This was nearly a complete hull replacement: 90% including structural timbers and upgrading planking to Mahogany below the water line. The construction was done using modern epoxies and techniques to make her better than her original construction. The reconstruction also included new propulsion machinery and generator, new electrical system and plumbing and all new electronics. Duchess is better built than any wooden vessel of her type available to date. She stands ready to go anywhere at a moment’s notice.

Upon entering the yacht from the starboard side, one enters the main saloon. The ceiling of the saloon has been modernized to include acoustical insulation with a headliner held in place by two varnished battens athwartship. On the port side and aft in the main saloon, there is a u shaped banquette with storage under and behind the cushions easily accessed from top. Two English chrome lamps accent this area with matching Ship’s clock and barometer. Opposite the banquette on the starboard side is a built-in storage cupboard with multiple custom storage areas. Forward of this and just beyond the starboard entrance to the saloon, there is a built -in low boy secretary with ample storage and foldaway writing top. Forward of this and to starboard is a fully vented electronics cabinet housing the stereo, CD, DVD and XM sattelite receivers.

Opposite this and on the port side forward is the Helm area. This includes drop down electronics (Features a dual GPS/Radar Screen on either port or starboard), tri data Raymarine, Icom VHF and Roberston AP200DC Autopilot w/ remote. In the center of the forward windows, the window is split to allow the lower portion to open for fresh air. All windows in the saloon include custom mahogany mini-blinds.

Moving forward and four steps down is the fully equipped galley. To starboard is a 3 burner propane stove w/ oven and an upright refrigerator/freezer with storage cabinets below. On the port side of the galley, there is a sink and ample storage. Forward and on the port side a cabinet houses the washer/dryer combo unit. Just beyond this area and on the port side are over/under berths(6′ in length). On the starboard side, there is a head with vanity to include a separate 30 gallon waste holding tank with monitor. Forward of this is a built-in chest of drawers and hanging locker for this stateroom.

Moving aft from the saloon on the starboard side and down four steps is a full size berth alongside the wall. Opposite this is the entrance to the master head complete with it’s own stall shower and beautifully faux painted black and white parquete floor. This head features it’s own 30 gallon holding waste tank with monitor as well. Moving aft from here, one enters the private master stateroom with full size twin berths to port and starboard. The berths are divided all the way aft and to the center by a highly varnished chest of drawers. The port side has a hanging closet and at the head of the portside berth, there is a keyed rifle/gun/jewelry safe. The master also enjoys antique leaded glass prism cut window panels throughout. In addition, the overhead has a butterfly hatch with leaded panels. The combination with the two opening ports aft offers excellent natural ventilation.

This yacht has 5/4 inch Mahogany plank below the waterline and 5/4 inch cedar hull sides, and oak steam bent frames, finished with teak decks. She is structurally very sound and recently had her solid mahogany transom replaced. Most yachts of this vintage are in need of some major work somewhere. “Duchess” has had the money spent where needed and includes a professionally decorated interior, which turns heads and feels “Right” from the moment you step aboard.
